Love Blooms:

A True Story About Loving

by Daniel M. Weiss

Yesterday, I came home from the Casino with a delicious half of a filet Mignon and put it in the refrigerator to save for slicing and using as sandwich meat.

Earlier this evening I decided on eating a portion of it in a Kaiser roll. Slicing enough of it down for a sandwich, I heated the roll in my Microwave.

Frankie always jumps to "her" place mat on the table when she hears the Microwave go on and sits so pretty with her front paws folded under a pure white chest, and never moves from that spot watching every bite of whatever goes into my mouth.

You may have seen that picture accompanying my story “Frankie and the Squirrel ” on the “Scootz” web site. (I include it here, again.)

Sitting down at the table proceeding to bite into the sandwich, I was through with about half of it when I decided to see if Frankie would eat the beef. Please take in mind she will not eat beef. Frankie feasts on chicken, liver and other such cans of soft food since she's toothless. Albeit both dogs and cats do not chew food, rather it is swallowed and nature does the rest.

I could trace the swallowing of food without chewing to untold million of years ago.

In eons past, ferocious creatures could not take time to luxuriate over chewing their kill; other hungry animals with their great sense of smell would come along to try to steal the kill. Nature in her infinite wisdom, adapted the eating habits of many animals.

The “Animal Planet” TV shows abound with animals tearing off huge chunks of meat and swallowing without chewing.

Tearing a little sliver from the slice of beef and putting it before her face on a napkin, she quickly gave it a once over smell and swallowed it, not moving from her place on the mat. Before realizing it, I was tearing more little bits from the meat until she had devoured all of it.

Taking the food out of my mouth it could not have given me more pleasure to see this beautiful little animal, so precious to her Mr. Mom, enjoy the filet bits as much as she did. It was a rewarding experience for me and I'm sure for her.

Taking into consideration that Filet Mignon is a delicious cut of meat:

Love blooms forth from the most simple of happenings.
