Time to Eat

by Daniel M. Weiss

It could be 5:00 or 6:00 AM, any day. Frankie's biological clock tells her she's hungry and it's time to wake Mr. Mom.

Mr. Mom is asleep on his right side. Since Frankie can't speak, she let's her actions speak louder than words and jumps on the bed to walk on his shoulder in an effort to wake him.

She's hungry and wants food.

Sleepily, Mr. Mom ignores her actions and pulls the bed sheet tighter over his left shoulder as she sits on the bed edge waiting for him to get up.

No success.

She repeats her previous actions. Mr. Mom now awake decides to tease the cat he holds so dear and does not move to get up to feed her.

However, Frankie again walks on his shoulder, this time less gently, displaying an annoyed attitude, she moves again, to the edge of the bed ready to jump off should Mr. Mom arise and go to the kitchen to feed her.

Still she does not succeed.

Next time, Frankie pounces and lands heavily on his shoulder, her anger or food need taking sway over her actions. This cat has a mind in her pretty head.

Mr. Mom gets up, goes to the kitchen, opens a can of Minced Turkey, puts it on a clean dish, spreading it out so the toothless cat he loves will have no trouble picking it up with her mouth.

She's waiting at the paper toweling on the floor for him to put down the dish.

He leaves the kitchen and sits down on the leather chair before his computer and turns it on to see if he had any email overnight.

Frankie comes into the bedroom, rubs against his right foot. He looks at her.

Her tongue is cleaning the lips and she begins to groom her beautiful fur. All is well in Frankie's world. Love reigns.
